Children’s Wishes welcomes its newest Board Member, Peter Jacavone III!

Peter Jacavone III is currently the Senior Vice President, Assistant Sales Manager and Construction Practice Group Leader at Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc. headquartered in East Providence, R.I.  Peter joined the firm in 2010, leveraging his personal experience and passion for anything construction related. As practice leader, he manages the development, negotiation, and implementation of industry specific insurance applications, forms, endorsements, and service deliverables offered throughout the entire Starkweather organization.  In 2017 Peter was named one of Providence Business News 40 under 40 award recipients. Peter is a passionate leader and respected member of the community who looks forward to making a positive impact on the Children’s Wishes organization.

Peter grew up in the town of Johnston, RI.  He is a graduate of LaSalle Academy and Rhode Island College, where he received his bachelor’s degree in business management and accounting.  Peter and his fiancé Talia currently reside in Greenville, RI and will be married in the fall of 2019.

“Being able to make a child’s dream come true when their circumstances are not so favorable makes it all worth it. The fact that Children’s Wishes is a local organization that is deeply rooted in our community makes the organization very special to me.” Peter said.

Thank You, Sons of Italy!

Many thanks to President, Joe Calabro from the Renaissance-Alliance Lodge #1966/Sons of Italy and fellow member and Children’s Wishes Board Treasurer, Ron Cascione. They welcomed us on March 5th during their monthly meeting at Lancellotta’s in North Providence.

Wish Kid, Lydia shared the story of her Journey and touched the hearts of all who were in the room!  We were presented with a $250 donation and had a laughter filled night with our new friends!

Congratulations Ed!

A big congratulations to East Commerce Solutions CEO Ed Medeiros, who has been named a 2019 YMCA Hero! Medeiros was selected to be honored for his “longstanding passion and dedication to the Y’s mission, which includes making a difference in the lives of children and improving the health and well-being of people in the community.”

Children’s Wishes is very much aware of the difference Ed makes in the lives of children. During its 1st Annual Children’s Wishes Passport Gala, Ed Medeiros received the 2018 Compass Award. The Compass Award spotlights individuals who exhibit generosity in service of Children’s Wishes families and exemplifies what it means to be a compassionate and committed leader.

Congratulations Ed! Thank you for all you do!

Remembering Isaiah

Remembering Isaiah

It is with heavy hearts that we let our Children’s Wishes friends, family and community know, we lost our sweet Wish Kid Isaiah Lussier. Isaiah passed away February 14th at the very young age of 11. He was diagnosed at age one with Polymicrogyria, a rare condition that affected the development of his brain. Even with a full awareness of his disability, he never let it get in the way of living his life to the fullest. Anyone lucky enough to know him would tell you he had a smile that could light up any room.

After being granted a Wish in 2015, Isaiah became an active family member of Children’s Wishes. “There are no answers as to why God called him from this Earth. But there is faith that we will one day see Isaiah again and we will honor Isaiah’s memory every day of our lives”, Director of Children’s Wishes Mary O’Rourke said, as she gave the touching Eulogy during his Memorial Service February 23rd.

Another incredible soul, taken too soon. Rest in Peace sweet Isaiah. You will be missed by so many.

Congratulations to the New England Patriots

Congratulations to the New England Patriots on winning Super Bowl LIIII!!!  Children’s Wishes is working on Luke’s Wish to “hug Tom Brady” and hope to make this happen in 2019!

This year’s game also took us back to last year’s Super Bowl. Although not the outcome New England fans wanted, we remain thankful to our friend Ed Medeiros, President and CEO of East Commerce Solutions who sent Wish Kid Daniel on a once in a lifetime trip to Super Bowl LIII in Minneapolis. Daniel also got to ride on the Patriot’s Friends and Family plane.
